Childrens Residential Support Worker\n\nMain purpose of the role:\n\nThe Residential Support Worker plays a vital role in providing safe, nurturing, and child-centred care to children and young people living within our residential homes.\n\nWorking as part of a dedicated team, you will support children with a range of complex needs to develop resilience, build positive relationships, and achieve their individual potential. Trust, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to children underpin everything we do.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nCare & Support\n\n * Provide high-quality, child-centred care that promotes safety, stability, and wellbeing.\n\n * Build positive, appropriate relationships with children based on trust, respect, and consistency.\n\n * Support children in their daily routines, including education, activities, health appointments, and life skills development.\n\n * Contribute to creating a warm, welcoming, and nurturing home environment.\n\n * Encourage participation in activities that support social, emotional, and personal development.\n\n * Safeguarding\n\n * Promote a strong safeguarding culture and maintain a protective environment at all times.\n\n * Recognise and respond appropriately to concerns, reporting in line with safeguarding procedures.\n\n * Maintain professional boundaries and act as a positive role model. and support children to feel safe, heard, and valued.\n\nProfessional Practice\n\n * Follow care plans, risk assessments, and behaviour support strategies consistently.\n\n * Use de-escalation approaches and approved interventions where required.\n\n * Remain calm and professional in challenging situations.\n\n * Demonstrate emotional resilience and reflective practice.\n\n * Act as a key worker for allocated Children and young people, taking responsibility for care planning, reviews and outcome tracking\n\n * Contribute to placement planning and risk management discussions and support consistency of practice across shifts\n\nRecording & Accountability\n\n * Maintain accurate, timely, and professional records.\n\n * Contribute to care planning and review processes.\n\n * Participate in handovers, team meetings, and supervision\n\n * Take responsibility for quality and accuracy of recordings across shifts when acting as shift lead.\n\nTeam Working\n\n * Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure consistent care practices.\n\n * Communicate effectively and share relevant information.\n\n * Take direction from Team leaders, managers while using initiative appropriately.\n\n * Lead shifts when required, ensuring safe staffing levels and effective handover\n\n * Provide guidance and informal mentoring to new or less experienced staff and support induction of new team members\n\nPartnership Working\n\nEngage respectfully with families, social workers, education staff, and other professionals.\n\nSupport children to maintain important relationships where appropriate.\n\nDevelopment\n\nUndertake mandatory training and actively engage in ongoing professional development.\n\nWork towards the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare within required timescales if not already achieved.\n\nOther Duties\n\n * Carry out all responsibilities in accordance with organisational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.\n\n * Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in practice.\n\n * Fulfil health and safety responsibilities to maintain a safe environment.\n\n * Undertake additional duties reasonably required to support the safe and effective running of the home.\n\nPerson Specification\n\nEssiential\n\nWillingness to achieve the Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare within two years of appointment.\n\nEnhanced DBS check valid for working with children and young people\n\nGenuine motivation to work with children and make a positive difference.\n\nAbility to build appropriate relationships while maintaining professional boundaries. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.\n\nEmotional resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure.\n\nWillingness to learn and develop professionally.\n\nAbility to work flexibly, including shifts, weekends, and sleep-ins where required.\n\nCommitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.\n\nValues-driven with a professional and respectful approach.\n\nBasic understanding of the needs of vulnerable children or a willingness to learn.\n\nAwareness of equality, diversity, and anti-discriminatory practice.\n\nDemonstrates professional, respectful, and accountable behaviour.\n\nActs with integrity and consistency, even in challenging situations.\n\nCommunicates openly and works collaboratively with others.\n\nShows compassion, patience, and commitment to supporting children.\n\nTakes responsibility for their development and contributes positively to team culture.\n\nDesirable\n\nLevel 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).\n\nExperience working with children or young people in any setting.\n\nFull UK driving licence.\n\nExperience working within a regulated care environment\n\nUnderstanding of safeguarding practices
